CommunityScale in the news: Community members invited to discuss plan for new housing in Maynard

SOLUTIONS

Maynard will hold the first of two public forums on July 29 to shape the five-year update of its Housing Production Plan. Registration is open.

The Town of Maynard, MA will hold the first of two public forums on July 29 to help shape a five-year update of its Housing Production Plan (HPP). We are working with the Town’s HPP Advisory Group, made up of residents and Town staff, to develop goals for the updated plan. Draft goals will be presented at the forum and may be revised based on the input gathered.

Maynard’s HPP was first adopted in 2016 and last updated in 2021. A certified plan gives the Town more say in how and where new homes get built. About 9.9% of Maynard’s year-round housing units are currently deed-restricted Affordable, just short of the 10% threshold set by the Commonwealth. For more on how “affordable” is defined and calculated, see our explainer on household income, HUD Income Limits, MFI, and AMI.

“The Town is very concerned about maintaining affordability for its residents. An HPP allows us to plan as best as we can for the needs of the community as a whole.”

Bill Nemser, Maynard Planning Director

The forum runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Zoom with an interactive format and several ways for attendees to offer input and ideas. Advance registration is required: register on Eventbrite. Questions about the HPP update can go to Planning Director Bill Nemser at [email protected].
